Media Communications Officer – Maidstone – 3 months – FT – £14 – £15 hourly Umbrella

STR Group Services are working with a leading Public Sector client based in Maidstone and we are recruiting for a Media Communications Officer on a 3 months contract, on a Full-Time basis.

In order to be considered for this position, you must have the following experience and skills;
At least 2 years equivalent communications or journalistic experience.
Previous experience working in a busy press office, media handling and writing media releases.
Experience using a range of communications tools and techniques including traditional media relations and social media.
Experience taking the lead in dealing with the media.
Experience monitoring and evaluating specialist media activity and coverage.
Political awareness of sensitivity.
An awareness of the law relating to the reporting of events and regarding data protection and privacy, child protection, copyright law, etc.
An understanding of equality and diversity and its relevance to this role.

Ideally, we are looking for the following desirable qualities, however these are not essential;
Recognised communications, public relations or marketing qualification (eg. CIPR, PRCA).
Experience of working in local government.

This role would require you to;
Deliver professional media relations service, acting as a main point of contact for journalists.
Offering expert advice to councillors and officers on proactive and reactive media handling strategies to protect and enhance reputation.
Contribute to a rolling forward plan of proactive communications activity to deliver a strategic approach to media relations.

Pay for this position is £14 to £15, Per Hour – Umbrella
