Health & Safety Officer
A client of ours in Portsmouth is looking for a Health and Safety Officer to join their team for a period of 6 Months, the role purpose is to assist the Health & Safety Manager in ensuring the operational efficiency of the Health and Safety team to deliver on its areas of responsibility, to act as a competent person in accordance with Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and provide information, advice and support in health, safety and risk management as directed by the H&S Manager

Job activities

Be a resource available to managers for ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety legislation and policies.
Provide competent advice, and functional support for employees, schools employees and other employees, in accordance with corporate policies/procedures and traded service agreements
Provide advice and support in reviewing incident reports and any subsequent investigations
Deliver mandatory training sessions to staff and those within the scope of the Health & Safety Traded Service including risk assessment and manual handling techniques
Provide advisory support in resolving issues identified in Workstation assessments in accordance the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations

Education and Training

NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
Manual Handling trainer/assessor qualification

Experience

Practical experience in providing H&S advice and guidance within a large organisation
Practical experience in delivering classroom based H&S training

A working knowledge of using Windows based applications.
Experience in producing correspondence and reports for internal and external clients – Desirable

Skill and abilities

Excellent inter-personal and project participation skills
Highly developed presentation skills
Able to work with minimal direction and achieve positive outcomes
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Able to use audio visual equipment appropriately within the context of training
Computer literate
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Tenacity and the ability to achieve objectives
Able to organise, plan and work methodically
Full, clean driving licence
Ability to undertake the practical elements of manual handlin
