Assistant Fleet/Workshop Manager
A client of ours in Enfield has a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Fleet/Workshop Manager to join their team for a period of 3 months, this role will entail a close collaboration with the Fleet Manager, to maintain and enforce standards throughout the vehicle operations as the ‘Compliance Guardians’ as well as being one of the nominated Transport Manager’s on the Operator’s license, to monitor driver conduct and vehicle roadworthiness with colleagues from the Fleet Team.
Contribute to the development of a centralised fleet procurement policy to enhance and optimise value for money.
Foster and maintain effective working relationships with external enforcement bodies in relation to the duty to operate within the terms of their operator’s licence.
Assist in the development of fleet management software to produce reports on vehicle usage, mileage and maintenance costs.
In the absence of the Fleet Manager, assist and deputise, in leading, managing and advising the Fleet department on Strategic and Operational matters.
Oversee and manage the daily operations of the fleet workshops.
Maintain and where possible enhance relationships between third party customers and suppliers
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of Local Authority vehicle fleets with its diverse and complex vehicle types supporting the front-line services including:
Experience of the development of strategies and policies, including setting standards, benchmarking and stakeholder consultation
Experience of effectively monitoring quality, performance and value for money and compilation of reports
Experience of implementing, monitoring, reviewing and where necessary enforcing policy to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Hold a valid Certificate of Professional Competence in national road haulage operations
Experience in guiding and influencing the Senior Management Team through developing future policy and strategies.
Support of peers and front line operational managers through developing training courses and guidance notes for managers who depend upon the professional skills and technical knowledge of the fleet management team.
Have the integrity, determination and personal skills to monitor, advise, influence and enforce compliance with safe, efficient and legal standards in the operation of vehicles by all departments.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience of contributing to the management of an in house vehicle maintenance workshop with the managements skills to lead and manage technical workshop staff through effective delegation and empowerment.
Experience in a similar workshop role working with third party work providers
Held a similar position with experience of being a nominated transport manager on a company operator’s licence
LGV driving licence and advantage
